How To Volunteer For The 2023 MLK Day Of Service
Join VIP House Of Hair as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through MLK Day of Service. Each year, this special day is a defining moment when we step up to make communities more equitable.

Also to take action to create the ‘beloved community’ of Dr. King’s dream. Although Dr. King believed the ‘beloved community’ was possible, he fought for systemic change.

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service. In effect, encouraging all Americans to volunteer to improved their communities. During the last 25 years, the MLK Day of Service has grown. Thus, its impact increased as more Americans accept the idea that citizenship involves being active in improving communities.

MLK National Day of Service

At the LA Memorial Coliseum in 1964, Dr. King passionately and persuasively addressed 15,000 Angelenos. The speech was about issues of race relations and human dignity.

In 2023, VIP House Of Hair will continue our long tradition of honoring Dr. King’s legacy. We will empower our community to take collective action in the fight for food and climate justice. The root cause is systemic white supremacy. But the symptoms are Black, Brown, Indigenous, and low income people have access to the unhealthiest foods. They also bear a disproportionate impact from climate disruptions.

On Monday, January 16, and the days surrounding, VIP House Of Hair invites you to:

  • act on Dr. King’s legacy of social justice and equity
  • engage with your community and create constructive action
  • recommit by volunteering to serve others. You can clean up a public space, mentor a young person, or help those who are food insecure

Together, we can strengthen ties to our communities and each other while we address critical issues that divide us.
